Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., issued the following statement after the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said today it was slowing down on its attempted ammo ban.
“More than half of my fellow U.S. senators and I wrote to the ATF yesterday asking the bureau to stop its attempted ban of M855 ball ammunition,” said Enzi. “These cartridges are prevalent for one of the most commonly possessed rifles, the AR-15 and its variants. Today the ATF issued a statement saying it would not seek to issue the final guidelines “at this time”. This Administration has sought strict gun control and looks for ways to get around the Second Amendment where it can. It’s important that senators and representatives and the public who believe in one of our most basic and important rights, continue to be vigilant. Write the ATF and watch for the next gun control attempt. This Administration will not stop and neither should we.”
“This Administration knows that banning this ammunition effectively bans the AR-15 rifle,” said Barrasso. “While I welcome the ATF’s decision to withdraw the ammo ban, I believe President Obama’s Administration will continue to look for backdoor ways to attack our Second Amendment rights. If they try to move forward with this horrible plan in the future, we will do everything in our power to stop them.”
