“Friend of Farm Bureau” award presented to Barrasso
Cody–United States Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) received the “Friend of Farm Bureau” award at the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation 2010 annual meeting in Cody. Wyoming Farm Bureau President Perry Livingston presented the award to Senator Barrasso on Nov. 11.
“We thank and recognize Senator Barrasso for his work in Washington D.C.,” Livingston stated. “We appreciate the work he does on behalf of Wyoming citizens and specifically the Wyoming agriculture industry.”
The “Friend of Farm Bureau” award is based upon voting records on American Farm Bureau Federation’s priority issues, specific leadership roles for Farm Bureau and how accessible and responsive the member of Congress is to Farm Bureau members and leaders.
United States Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and United States Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) also received the “Friend of Farm Bureau” award.
The Wyoming Farm Bureau specifically thanked Senator Barrasso, and Senator Enzi and Representative Lummis, for their support of death tax reform.
“Death tax uncertainty leaves many family-owned businesses and farms guessing about tax liabilities and unable to make prudent business decisions,” Livingston stated.
“As part of Farm Bureau’s nationwide work on the issue, Farm Bureau members have signed “Put Death Taxes to Rest” postcards to thank you for your work on this issue,” WyFB President Livingston said as he presented Senator Barrasso with hundreds of postcards signed by members of the Wyoming Farm Bureau.
In remarks to the Farm Bureau audience, Senator Barrasso criticized current actions by Congress and the Administration. “We know what we are up against with the death tax and will keep working for you in Washington,” Barrasso stated. “Speaking to the health care law, we know repeal isn’t in reach now so we have to get it fixed.”
“As an example, the law provides for 13,500 more IRS agents, but there is nothing for doctors,” He stated. “Another item that needs fixed is to repeal the form 1099 requirement.”
Senator Barrasso fielded questions from the audience about border security, judicial branch appointments and other issues impacting Wyoming. Barrasso also recognized the veterans in the room and thanked them for their service to our country.
“Thank you for this meaningful award,” Senator Barrasso told Wyoming Farm Bureau members. “I will keep working for you in Washington.”
The Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general agriculture organization. The primary goals of the organization are to protect private property rights and help members achieve an equitable return on their investment.
