Barrasso Gains Seniority on Senate Energy Committee

Lawmaker now ranks 2nd among GOP on Senate Energy Committee

WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) has gained seniority on a critical committee that oversees Wyoming energy and public lands.  Barrasso is now the second highest ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

“Wyoming has been represented on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee continuously since 1899,” Barrasso said.  “Perhaps no other committee in Congress touches every aspect of our natural resource economy like the Energy Committee.  It is a tradition of leadership to Wyoming that I am proud to continue.”

Barrasso said he plans to keep pressure on the Obama Administration to decrease red tape that is driving up energy costs for American families.  He will also continue promoting all American energy resources, including traditional sources like coal, uranium, and oil and gas.  He will work with other Committee members to support the red, white and blue energy jobs as well as the green energy jobs.

As Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Public Lands and Forests, Barrasso will continue to fight against the Administration’s anti multi-use agenda on public lands.

Background:

Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) was formerly in this position.  He has moved to the Senate Finance Committee.  Barrasso is now the second highest ranking Republican on the Committee behind Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).
Senator Barrasso has served on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee since 2007 and is the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee for Public Lands and Forests.
