Barrasso Appointed to Key Republican Position

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) has been appointed to the Senate Republican Whip team. The appointment was announced by Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl.

"I am honored that Senator Kyl has asked me to serve on the Republican Whip Team. From health care, to energy, to getting our economy back on track, the votes in the Senate cover issues vitally important to folks in Wyoming. I look forward representing Wyoming values and interests from within the Republican caucus," Barrasso said.

"I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the whip team I’ve assembled," Kyl said. "Not only do the members represent the diversity within the Republican Conference, but each brings critical skills that will help our leadership develop the successful strategies needed for the session ahead."

Senator Richard Burr was named Chief Deputy Whip. The members of the whip team include: Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) and David Vitter (R-La.).

The Whip team is responsible for building support for the Republican legislative agenda and assisting the Republican Leader in recommending legislative agenda items and strategy.
