WASHINGTON, DC –Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee for Clean Air and Nuclear Safety, issued the following statement in response to the resignation of Dr. Gregory Jaczko as chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC):
“Chairman Jaczko’s resignation marks the end of an alarming and problematic tenure at the NRC. It is now more important than ever that we reconfirm Commissioner Svinicki and confirm a highly qualified replacement for Dr. Jaczko as soon as possible.
“Commissioner Svinicki has an outstanding record at the NRC and the support of President Obama and the majority of the Senate. The Senate should swiftly reconfirm her.
“As Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety, I will work to ensure the NRC is fully staffed and committed to keeping Americans safe.”
