Calls for Administration to Also Permit West Coast LNG Export Facility
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement regarding the Department of Energy’s authorization of Dominion Cove Point LNG to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement with the United States:
“The dramatic rise in America’s trade deficit and weak economic growth is another reminder of why federal agencies must pick up the pace on permitting liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. LNG exports will help grow America’s economy, create good-paying jobs at home, and strengthen the energy security of key U.S. allies. I applaud the Administration’s decision giving communities along the Gulf Coast and East Coast the opportunity to export LNG. Now the Administration must quickly deliver the same economic opportunities to communities in the West. It’s time for the Administration to complete the permitting process for the Jordan Cove LNG export facility.”
On January 6th, Senator John Barrasso introduced the “LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act.” The bipartisan legislation will speed up the approval process for exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries which do not have free trade agreements with the United States. It specifically requires the Secretary of Energy to make a decision on any LNG export application within 45 days after the environmental review document for the project is published.
