Administration Should Fast Track Reforms, Not Drag Them Out for Years
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement regarding President Obama’s regulatory plan:
“America’s job creators have made it clear that Washington’s red tape makes it harder for them to help Americans get back to work.
“The Administration continues to send mixed signals about its commitment to truly cutting red tape. Since January, this Administration has proposed 349 new rules and regulations at a cost of more than $66.3 billion.
“Just this year, the Obama Administration turned six pages of the President’s news health care law into 429 pages of new Washington regulations.
“Today, the Administration is trying to have it both ways. Their report that they are actually going to cut some regulations would be welcome news – if it wasn’t for their track record. If the Administration is really serious about getting rid of job crushing regulations, it will move quickly to cut many of them and terminate certain proposed rules. The Administration should also focus first on the reforms that deliver the biggest relief to the job creators.
“Additionally, the President should support the Republican REINS Act. This bill would require every new major regulation proposed by the Executive Branch to first win approval from Congress before being put on the books.”
