WASHINGTON, DC – Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee voted to keep a devastating climate tax out of the budget.
Barrasso was part of a bi-partisan majority
The amendment which prohibits the use of budget reconciliation for cap-and-trade legislation, passed by a vote of 67-31.
This cap-and-trade legislation would have been an enormous new energy tax on the American people."
“Reconciliation was designed for deficit reduction, not major policy initiatives. Issues such as climate change should be fully debated. I was pleased to join an overwhelming bi-partisan majority to pass this amendment.” Barrasso said. “Transparency and accountability are essential in this process”.
"Support for this amendment came from both sides of the aisle and all sides of the climate debate. We can now have a full, open, and honest debate about cap-and-trade legislation."
