Barrasso: Missing Senate Budget and High Unemployment Directly Linked

Washington Spending Spree Makes It Harder for Private Sector to Create Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement regarding the 800th day since the United States Senate has passed a budget.  He also commented on the U.S. Department of Labor’s unemployment numbers for June.

“It’s been 800 days since the Senate has fulfilled its constitutional obligation of passing a budget.  We’ve now officially had more than two years of spend as you please politics in Washington. During this time, we’ve spent $7.3 trillion and added $3.2 trillion to the gross federal debt.

“Today we also learned that our unemployment rate climbed to 9.2%.  America’s high unemployment and the Senate’s missing budget are directly linked.  Washington’s outrageous spending spree and expensive regulations have made it harder for the private sector to grow and create new jobs.

“It’s time for solid leadership.  One of the most important things Washington can do to help job creators is to live within our means. In order to do that, the Senate must consider and pass a budget.  I will continue to call on the Majority to propose a fiscally responsible budget and bring it to the floor for a vote.”
