WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) issued the following statement regarding his vote to support Senate passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“America needs a strong military to keep us safe in a dangerous world. As our nation faces grave and growing threats, this bipartisan defense bill strengthens military readiness to deter our adversaries and protect Americans.
“The legislation prioritizes military modernization. It invests in the latest aircraft and ships, updates our nuclear arsenal, and strengthens cyber defenses. It also includes funding for critical projects at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne and reimburses states for fire suppression costs.
“The bill keeps our promises to America’s all-volunteer force. It includes the largest pay raise for uniformed service members in a decade, improves military housing, and increases job opportunities for military spouses.
“Having passed the Senate with bipartisan support, there is no good reason for House Democrats to block this defense bill. As we approach the July 4 holiday, signing this legislation into law quickly will give America’s servicemen and women the tools they need to defend our nation and our cherished freedoms.”
Some key Wyoming provisions included in NDAA:
• F. E. Warren AFB Helicopter Alert Facility – $18 million
• UH-1N Helicopter Replacement Program Air Force Security Forces – $171 million
• Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (Minuteman III Replacement) – $592 million
