WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) announced that he will introduce an amendment to the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2014. His amendment will require the Department of Energy (DOE) to approve liquefied natural gas exports (LNG) to all World Trade Organization member countries, including Ukraine.
“I have said repeatedly that I will take every opportunity to get a vote on legislation that will make it easier for the United States to export LNG to other countries. My amendment will create jobs across America, strengthen America’s foreign policy hand and help our allies who are held hostage to Russian energy. Bipartisan support for exporting LNG continues to grow stronger each day and it’s time for Washington to act on this important issue now. The pending energy bill is the perfect opportunity to finally get this done.”
Background on Barrasso Amendment:
Senator Barrasso’s amendment will apply to pending and future applications to export LNG.
The language of this amendment is also section 305 of the Russian Aggression Prevention Act of 2014 which currently has 22 cosponsors.
