“Victory for few extreme environmental activists, defeat for America’s many unemployed”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) spoke out against President Obama’s decision to reject the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline in the United States:
“President Obama just made it clear that he is more interested in his own reelection than American job creation. His decision today is a victory for the few extreme environmental activists who have lined up to protest Keystone and a defeat for the tens of thousands of Americans who are lining up to find a Keystone job. The President chose to shore up his voting base instead of standing up for unemployed Americans.
“This decision flies in the face of the President’s Jobs Council’s recommendation yesterday that the White House support new pipeline projects and American energy development. It also undermines our nation’s energy security. Instead of strengthening our relationship with Canada, we will continue to be dependent on oil imports from Venezuela, Nigeria and the Persian Gulf.
“As Americans consider the President’s record on the economy, Keystone will stand out as one of his most irresponsible decisions. It’s another example of how he is making our economy worse.
“I think you can be sure this won’t be the last word on Keystone.”
