Barrasso: START Treaty Limits U.S. Ability to Defend Our Nation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo) released the following statement regarding his vote in opposition to the new START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) treaty during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing:

“The START Treaty is supposed to reduce strategic nuclear weapons between Russia and the United States – not limit our ability to defend our nation.  I voted against the treaty today because it places limitations on our nuclear defense capabilities.  As our country continues to face threats from around the world, we should not take any action that will weaken our missile defense options.”
