WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), released the following statement on the U.S. Court of Appeals’ move to delay a ruling regarding the Clean Power Plan lawsuit. The court granted the Trump administration’s motion to hold the case in abeyance for 60 days.

“Today’s court order is a win for Wyoming’s energy workers,” said Chairman Barrasso. “The so-called Clean Power Plan would shut down American power plants and increase energy costs for families. This decision gives President Trump’s administration time to reverse this damaging Obama-era regulation.”

Background Information

On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order promoting energy independence and economic growth.

This executive order was to rescind a number of the Obama administration’s climate-related initiatives. It also directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of the Interior, to review and – if appropriate – suspend, revise, or rescind regulations affecting the oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, and electric-generation sectors of our economy. Barrasso attended the signing ceremony for the order.
