WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement regarding cap and trade legislation introduced by Senators John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) Senator Barrasso is the only Republican to serve on both the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and Environment and Public Works Committee.
“Families in Wyoming and across America have made it clear: they want more jobs, cheaper energy and lower taxes. This bill doesn’t reflect these important priorities, in fact it does exactly the opposite. Congress should not take a single step that makes it more expensive for Americans to turn on their lights, fuel their cars or operate their businesses.
“This Administration continues to pursue energy and gas taxes that Americans don’t want and can’t afford. This bill will cost millions of Americans their jobs, with no environmental benefit to show for it.
“Our country cannot run on green jobs alone. We must also increase the number of red, white and blue jobs that have powered our nation. We need more wind, solar, oil, gas, coal, and nuclear energy. We need it all, and Americans want it all.”
