Barrasso to Obama: Take Regulatory Time Bomb off the Table

Bad for consumers, jobs and the economy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) is calling on President Obama to take the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Air Act regulatory time bomb off the table.

“It’s bad for consumers, it’s bad for jobs and it’s bad for the economy,” Barrasso said.
Using the Clean Air Act to regulate climate change will place sweeping restrictions on hospitals, schools, farms, commercial buildings and nursing homes.

Barrasso said using the act would wipe out jobs and raise energy prices. “Unless Congress acts, we’re taking an enormous economic gamble with the American people’s future.”

“A bad option for America is no option for America,” Barrasso said. “These restrictions will endanger America’s economy during a time when America shouldn’t be taking chances.”

“The EPA Administrator admits that Congressional action would be better. But her solution is to pass the President’s energy tax,” Barrasso said. “It too is a ticking time bomb.”

“Spending trillions of dollars to address climate change through an untested cap-and-tax scheme is misguided, risky and unnecessary.”

“We need an energy solution that meets all of our nation’s future needs. A solution that makes America’s energy as clean as we can, as fast as we can, without hurting our economy.”

The letter was co-signed by Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS).
