Barrasso: Wolf Ruling Insults Wyoming

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Barrasso , R-Wyo., issued the following statement regarding a decision by an activist federal judge to reinstate Endangered Species Act protection for wolves in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho :

“Today’s ruling by an activist judge was not based on sound science but rather pressure from environmental groups making exaggerating claims. After years of struggle and debate, we are right back where we started – with Washington, not Wyoming , in control over wolf management. That is unacceptable to me and to the people of Wyoming .”

“The U.S. Fish and Wildlife has far exceeded their targets in recovering the gray wolf. The law is designed to recover species, and that is exactly what it has done.”

Wyoming , which has worked in good faith with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is in the best position to determine how the wolf should be managed. It should not be left up to an environmental group from San Francisco , and certainly not a federal judge.”
