Barrasso: Wyoming is on the front lines of the climate change debate

Barrasso calls for innovation and vigilance.

CASPER – Speaking at a forum on climate change Friday, Senator John Barrasso (R.-Wyo.) highlighted Wyoming ’s position as a leader in the climate change debate—now, and in the future.

Barrasso stressed that in the ongoing discussion about climate change, “I will fight to make all of America ’s energy as clean as possible, as fast as we can. We must not allow Washington to destroy entire energy sectors that power our economy.”

“The number one energy issue of our generation is carbon. Through science, innovation, legislation, and public demand, coal will remain a vital resource for our energy future. We can’t afford to have Wyoming ’s coal become a stranded asset.”

A member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the Environment and Public Works Committee, Barrasso noted endless possibilities for Wyoming ’s abundant resources. “A balanced approach recognizes that the best domestic, affordable, carbon neutral energy technologies are clean coal technology, nuclear power, and renewables such as wind, solar, and geothermal. Wyoming has what America needs.”

Wyoming must remain at the forefront of the debate.”

Barrasso addressed the Forum on Climate Change: Politics and Economic Realities hosted by the Wyoming Heritage Foundation in Casper.
