Senator supports Governor Freudenthal’s request for Presidential Disaster Declaration for flood devastated areas of Wyoming
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), sent a letter to President Obama supporting Governor Freudenthal’s request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration in flood devastated areas of Wyoming. Barrasso recently toured areas of Wyoming that have endured historic flooding due to heavy rains and expedited snowmelt with Governor Freudenthal. He was able to assess the damage first hand.
“After touring the flood devastated communities in the state, it is clear the people of Wyoming require more help. I support the Governor in his request for the federal government to provide all the necessary support and resources to our state. It is imperative that we help these communities recover and restore critical infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed by the floods,” said Barrasso.
Text of the letter:

Dear President Obama:
The State of Wyoming and its citizens have recently endured historic flooding due to heavy rains, late snow storms and expedited snowmelt. As a result, we have lost a number of bridges and critical infrastructure. I recently toured the affected areas with Governor Freudenthal and the Wyoming National Guard to see the damage first hand.
The State of Wyoming in coordination with the federal government has completed a Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) of the damage caused by ongoing flooding in Wyoming. Based on the PDA findings, the state has concluded that damage is beyond the state’s recovery capabilities.
I strongly support Governor Freudenthal’s request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration and urge that all federal assistance be provided to assist with the recovery effort. I greatly appreciate your consideration and look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
John Barrasso, M.D.
United States Senator
