WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Western Caucus Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) and Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), released a new report entitled: “Principled Stewardship of the American West.”
The report highlights key western principles that will guide the Senate and Congressional Western Caucuses in the years ahead. All of the principles are geared toward advancing an agenda that supports energy, environmental stewardship, agriculture and forestry, and judicial and regulatory reform. The report also focuses on the caucuses’ goal of transferring power from Washington bureaucrats back to the people of the West.
“The West has long been a leader when it comes to providing natural resources that improve the lives of millions of people across the country,” said Chairman Barrasso. “Our report highlights how western principles work well to advance environmental stewardship and responsible energy, food, and timber production. These principles will help guide Western Caucus members as we work to advance policies that create jobs, cut Washington red tape, encourage conservation, and increase America’s energy security.”
“The individuals who live in the west understand and care for their land, air, and water and are ultimately the best stewards of our natural resources, and these principles support their important work on the ground,” said Chairman Lummis. “Western and rural communities power our homes, put food on our tables, and keep our beautiful landscapes healthy, productive, and sustainable. Our report contains principles that will guide the Western Caucus in supporting our uniquely American way of life, principles that built the west and that are shared by communities nationwide as we continue welcoming new Western Caucus members from all over the country. I look forward to advancing these principles, which will lead to better economic outcomes, better conservation outcomes, and ultimately a stronger America.”
Principles Highlighted in the Report:
- Principle 1 – Energy: Promoting access to our nation’s abundant, affordable, secure, diverse, and reliable energy and mineral resources, making the United States a global energy leader.
- Principle 2 – Environmental Stewardship: Focusing on state and local environmental solutions that put communities first.
- Principle 3 – Agriculture and Forestry: Promoting affordable, safe, and abundant domestic food production for American families, and creating healthy forests.
- Principle 4 – Judicial and Regulatory Reform: Leveling the playing field for states, local governments, businesses, and individuals.
