Evanston, Rawlins, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Torrington to receive funds
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso and Representative Cynthia Lummis, all R-Wyo., said that five Wyoming airports will better meet the increasing transportation needs in rural areas thanks to more than $2.8 million recently awarded in grants.
The Department of Transportation is distributing grants through the Federal Aviation Administration to airports in Evanston, Rawlins, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Torrington.
“As Wyoming air traffic increases, Wyoming airports also need to keep up. These funds will help airports do just that and also increase the ease of travel for Wyoming residents and people visiting our beautiful state,” Enzi said.
“Access to and from these airports is critical for Wyoming residents. The Evanston, Rawlins, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Torrington airports serve a vital role in connecting us across the state and around the nation,” Barrasso said. “I’m glad to hear of these grants which will mean greater opportunities for our communities and economy.”
"Air service to Wyoming communities is a crucial part of our state’s economic development," Lummis said. "These grants will go a long way to enhancing the safety, quality and convenience of our airports and help ensure the continued viability of air service in Wyoming."
• The Uinta County/Burns Field Airport in Evanston will receive more than $176,000 for construction of the apron and taxilanes.
• The Rawlins Municipal Airport will receive more than $277,000 for construction of taxilanes and the installation of perimeter fencing on the field.
• The Rock Springs-Sweetwater County Airport in will receive more than $1.1 million for construction of a snow removal equipment building, rehabilitation of a runway and the general aviation apron, and improvements on the terminal.
• The Sheridan County Airport will receive more than $1 million for rehabilitation of the general aviation apron.
• The Torrington Municipal Airport will receive more than $242,000 to rehabilitate the existing apron and taxiway.
